医学生物学領域に関する国際原則 (The international Guiding Principles For Biomedical Research Involving Animals) は、10の原則からなります。
5つ目の原則です。
1. The health and welfare of animals should be primary considerations in decisions regarding the program of veterinary medical care to include animal acquisition and/or production, transportation, husbandry and management, housing, restraint, and final disposition of animals, whether euthanasia, rehoming, or release.
（私訳）動物の入手や繁殖、移動、管理、住環境、拘束、さらに、最終処分（安楽死、引き渡し、解放であれ）に関する獣医学的ケアについての手順を決めるにあたって、第一に考慮すべきことは、動物の健康と福祉である。

2. Measures should be taken to ensure that the animals' environment and management are appropriate for the species and contribute to the animals' well-being.
（私訳）動物たちの周りの環境と、動物の管理方法が、種の特性にあったものとなるよう、そして動物のウェルビーイングに貢献するよう、さまざまな手段をとるべきである。
